Matthew Erramouspe is a partner in O’Melveny’s Century City office and a member of the Entertainment, Sports and Media Practice. Matthew advises clients in all business and legal aspects related to the financing, production, distribution and other exploitation of motion pictures, television programs, and entertainment and sports events. His practice focuses on structuring strategic investments and financing arrangements, as well as negotiating strategic production and distribution arrangements, in the motion picture and filmed entertainment business in the United States and abroad. Matthew also advises clients on strategic acquisitions and sales of entertainment and media companies and assets.
Matthew represents motion picture studios, production companies, distributors, investors, sponsors, investment banks, private equity funds and hedge funds, and his recent clients include Elliott Management, The Weinstein Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and MGM.
Illustrative Professional Experience
- Structured Elliott Associates' investment in Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media, including a partnership with Relativity to co-finance at least 75 percent of Universal Pictures’ release slate through 2012.
- Represented The Weinstein Company in pursuing strategic financing from Abu Dhabi, Singapore, China, and other international territories, including in connection with the structuring, formation and financing of film funds in Asia and Latin America.
- Represented a Japanese media conglomerate and advertising giant in connection with its strategic slate co-financing and distribution arrangement with a US major studio, under which the Japanese conglomerate will co-finance a portion of the budget for each motion picture released by the major studio through 2012 in return for a commensurate share of the worldwide receipts from those pictures, and will also be licensed theatrical and television distribution rights to those pictures for the territory of Japan.
- Negotiated Sony Pictures Entertainment's co-financing, production and distribution arrangement with Relativity Media covering Sony’s release slate through early 2012.
- Represented MGM in connection with its new joint venture with Lionsgate and Viacom Inc. to create a next-generation premium television channel and video-on-demand service, EPIX—a deal that gives MGM an ownership stake in the new channel, as well as a domestic pay television outlet for its theatrical motion picture output over the next several years.
- Negotiated The Weinstein Company's US pay television output arrangement with Showtime Networks, as well as its US home video output arrangement with Genius Products.
- Advised Sony Pictures Entertainment in connection with the extension of its pay television output arrangement with Starz Entertainment—a deal that will bring Sony’s theatrical motion pictures through the latter part of the next decade to all of Starz’s platforms.
- Represented MGM in connection with its strategic arrangements with Comcast, which will bring both broader distribution of the MGM HD channel and the launch of a branded video-on-demand service.
