O’Melveny’s Asia Antitrust Team Partners With Global Competition Review To Develop Cases and Precedents Database for China and Hong Kong

December 4, 2024

O’Melveny’s Asia Antitrust Team has partnered with the Global Competition Review (GCR) to produce a cases and precedents database for China merger control and cartel cases in Hong Kong.

GCR Cases and Precedents – Mergers: China

China’s merger control regime is of central importance for cross-border M&A, and multinationals looking to invest in China.

Antitrust concerns can arise with any type of merger – whether horizontal, vertical, or conglomerate. China’s State Administration for Market Regulation has developed a range of strategies and practices to address these concerns. The GCR Cases and Precedents research tool is designed to help you analyze the regulator’s practices as developed in the cases and as they continue to evolve. GCR Cases and Precedents – Cartels: Hong Kong

Antitrust scrutiny of cartels by the Hong Kong Competition Commission (HKCC) plays a crucial role in maintaining a competitive landscape in Hong Kong.

Cartels—the “supreme evil of antitrust”—involve collusion among competing firms, resulting in inflated prices for consumers, limitations on consumer choice and other detrimental effects on competition. The HKCC is proactive in investigating and addressing these practices.
