Bar Association Of San Francisco IP Symposium 2024: Navigating the AI Frontier: Patent, Music Law, Regulatory Challenges

October 10, 2024

O’Melveny partner Mark Liang will be a featured panelist at the 2024 Intellectual Property Symposium discussing patent litigation. The event will explore different aspects of generative AI, how AI could potentially impact the patent system and law firms, the implications for music law as well as providing opportunities to network with panelists and board members.

“This panel, featuring distinguished patent attorneys and an AI startup founder, will cover two sets of topics. The first topic covers recent developments and practice pointers relating to prosecution and litigation of patents on AI inventions. This will include a discussion of the US Patent Office’s guidance and requests for comments on issues such as (1) AI as an inventor or disclosure of AI’s contribution to the invention process; (2) section 101 patent-eligibility practice; and (3) obviousness and the definition of a person of ordinary skill. The second topic is a discussion of AI-enhanced tools that law firms can use, both for the practice of patent litigation, prosecution, and transactions. The presentation will also cover leveraging AI to help with non-billable tasks, including helping legal marketing teams effectively showcase their attorneys' experience to drive overall business growth.”
