Five O’Melveny Lawyers Named to Variety’s 2023 Dealmakers Impact Report

CENTURY CITY—December 18, 2023—O’Melveny partners Amy Siegel, Matt Syrkin, Silvia Vannini, and Lindsay Conner have been named to Variety’s 2023 “Dealmakers Impact Report. Additionally, O’Melveny counsel Alexandra Piarino has been named to Variety’s “Up Next” list. The annual special report honors “entertainment’s top lawyers, financiers, entrepreneurs, and executives working across film, TV, digital, music, and live performance” who are behind “any transaction that has had a true impact on the industry.”
Variety recognized the O’Melveny team for their combined achievements in the past year, including:
- advising Stanford University on its decision to join the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC);
- leading major deals and core strategy for the roll out of new premium streaming service, SkyShowtime, a joint venture of Comcast and Paramount Global;
- counseling Australian animation studio Animal Logic in its acquisition by Netflix;
- representing Starz in the sale of a 57 percent majority stake in Starzplay Arabia to an Abu Dhabi-based consortium;
- advising the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and the Reagan Library in its agreement to host the recent Republican presidential primary debate;
- counseling Content Partners, a Los Angeles-based media investment company, in its acquisition of two film libraries covering 50 feature films;
- advising Starz in a film licensing output deal with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group;
- Representing Talipot Studios of Mexico in a series of financings, production, and distribution agreements for the feature film The Dead Don’t Hurt.
Amy Siegel, co-chair of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports & Media Group, represents motion picture studios, television networks, distribution and production companies, sports organizations, and other media clients in all business and legal aspects relating to the acquisition, financing, exploitation, and management of media-related assets. Siegel focuses her practice primarily on complex commercial licensing arrangements, with expertise in the use of intellectual property rights. She also advises clients on the creation of strategic alliances.
Matthew Syrkin, co-chair of O’Melveny’s MediaTech Group, specializes in delivering business and strategic legal counsel across a wide variety of commercial and corporate transactions. He is known for his pioneering work in structuring deals that are at the cutting-edge of technology, advertising, media, entertainment, sports, retail products, and financial services. Clients turn to Syrkin when it comes to negotiating innovative, first-of-their-kind deals and future-proofing their businesses.
Silvia Vannini advises public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, securities, and general corporate matters, including corporate governance, both in and out of the entertainment industry. She regularly represents private equity funds, domestic and foreign companies, motion picture studios, television networks as well as entrepreneurial clients on a wide range of corporate transactions.
Lindsay Conner is a leading corporate entertainment lawyer, with a focus on film, television, and digital content. He has served as chief outside entertainment counsel for major film studios and television networks, global telecommunications companies, film and television production and distribution companies, rights owners and content owners, and digital media companies, as well as for banks, financial institutions, private equity funds, and high-net-worth investors.
