Massachusetts Institute of Technology: O’Melveny Scholar Sofia Lara Selected as 2026 Rhodes Scholar

O’Melveny scholar and MIT senior Sofia Lara has been selected as a 2026 Rhodes Scholar and will begin fully funded postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford in the UK in the fall of 2026. A biological engineering major, Lara will pursue a DPhil in clinical medicine. She is a 2022 graduate of John F. Kennedy Gifted Medical Magnet High School in Los Angeles and an alumna of O’Melveny Elementary School, where she was selected as an O’Melveny Scholar in 2015. In partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District, eight fifth-grade students at O’Melveny Elementary are selected each year as O’Melveny Scholars. Upon enrolling in college, O’Melveny Scholars receive US$6,000 per year for four years to help finance their education. Since its founding in 1991, the O’Melveny Scholarship Program has helped more than 300 O’Melveny Elementary students realize their dream of attending college.
