O’Melveny Makes Strong Showing at American Lawyer Industry Awards

December 6, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK—DECEMBER 6, 2018—
O’Melveny received multiple accolades last night at The American Lawyer Industry Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement in the legal profession nationwide.

For the seventh consecutive year, the firm was honored for earning a spot on AmLaw’s “A-List,” a designation based on the firm’s revenue per lawyer, pro bono commitment, associate satisfaction, and racial and gender diversity. AmLaw also recognized firm chair emeritus and of counsel A.B. Culvahouse with its “Lifetime Achievement” award, and it honored partner Daniel Petrocelli among its “Litigators of the Year.”

In addition, O’Melveny was named a finalist for the “California Litigation Department of the Year” award, which recognizes the firm’s trial win in the closely watched AT&T-Time Warner merger case, as well victories for such clients as Johnson & Johnson and Sirius XM. The firm also was named a finalist for the “Global Litigation/Dispute Resolution of the Year” award for its representation of Samsung in antitrust litigation involving optical disk drives.

“What a wonderful night for O’Melveny,” said firm Chair Bradley J. Butwin. “The American Lawyer Industry Awards represent the very best in the legal profession, and we are honored to be included among the winners. O’Melveny’s strong showing is a testament to our deeply held commitment to delivering excellent results and excellent service to our clients.”

Butwin added: “Our A-List ranking is particularly meaningful to us because it reflects so many of the values we cherish at the firm. And we couldn’t be prouder of the richly deserved recognition for A.B., who has been such an influential leader at our firm and at the highest levels of government, and Dan, who is simply one of the best litigators I’ve ever known.”

As firm chair from 2000 to 2012, Culvahouse ushered in numerous advances at O’Melveny, including a new management framework, a formal pro bono initiative, and a groundbreaking leadership program carried out in tandem with the Kellogg School of Management. He also exemplifies O’Melveny’s tradition of high-level government service, serving as White House Counsel to President Ronald Reagan. In more recent years, he has helped presidential candidates, including John McCain and Donald Trump, vet vice presidential picks, and just last month he was nominated to serve as US ambassador to Australia.

Chair of the firm’s Trial Practice Committee, Petrocelli has represented numerous high-profile clients, from pop stars to CEOs to pro athletes, in major litigation. In naming him among the top eight litigators in the nation, AmLaw noted that he “is a lawyer clients call in the toughest situations.”
