Olson Recognized on Daily Journal’s List of Top White Collar Lawyers

December 11, 2020

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES—December 11, 2020—The Daily Journal selected Steven J. Olson, Co-Chair of the firm’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice, for inclusion on its list of Top White Collar Lawyers 2020. The special feature profiles “California’s top legal experts in the white collar bar.”

Honored for his investigations work, the Daily Journal wrote that Olson recently handled several “major internal probes” at prestigious California universities including both the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California following allegations of physician sexual misconduct. “It’s just another challenge for the overworked general counsel at these institutions,” Olson told the publication. “They have among the most challenging jobs in the US, and it’s very satisfying to work with them and with the regents and trustees.”

Olson also led the O’Melveny team behind an independent investigation of alleged accounting irregularities at multinational toy manufacturer Mattel Inc. “The stock price was being harmed, and we had to work quickly,” Olson shared. “That was a good example of the board-led investigation that I truly enjoy doing for clients.”

In addition to his white collar work, the Daily Journal also recognized Olson’s former role at the US Department of Commerce, where he founded the US$25 billion foreign investment funding initiative, SelectUSA. He continues to put these skills to good use in the community, working with Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to facilitate similar funding links among global investors and local businesses.
