The Hollywood Reporter Recognizes Four O’Melveny Partners as 2022 “Power Lawyers”

CENTURY CITY—April 4, 2022—The Hollywood Reporter has named O’Melveny partners Daniel Petrocelli, Amy Siegel, Molly Lens, and Silvia Vannini to its prestigious 2022 "Power Lawyers” list.
The special report spotlights "Hollywood’s Top 100 Attorneys" who are "settling the strife between studios and stars over blockbuster streaming releases, navigating big-ticket mergers while fending off the government’s antitrust ire, and exploring cutting-edge issues involving NFTs and the metaverse."
Daniel Petrocelli, O’Melveny Trial Practice Chair and Co-Vice Chair of the firm, has been honored as a “Power Lawyer” every year for more than the past decade. This year, from his extensive body of work, Dan was recognized for his representation of Disney in litigation brought by Scarlett Johansson over the Black Widow release and counseling of studios regarding their evolving distribution models. “Everybody is rethinking how content will be monetized,” Petrocelli said.
Amy Siegel, Co-Head of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports and Media Industry Group, was honored as a “Power Lawyer” for the third consecutive year. The publication noted that 2021 saw her co-lead South Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM’s US$850 million acquisition of Endeavor Content’s scripted business and advise fuboTV on its US$190 acquisition of Molotov SAS, a French livestreaming company.
The Hollywood Reporter’s profile of Molly Lens, Co-Head of O'Melveny's Entertainment, Sports, and Media Industry Group, highlighted her recent work in the area of copyright termination, which allows authors, in certain circumstances, to terminate grants to copyrighted works after a period of time. Lens, who was previously honored as a Power Lawyer in 2019, was recognized this year for launching a series of suits on behalf of Marvel to confirm its rights to various Marvel characters. Lens was also “pivotal in helping 20th Century Fox settle a copyright termination suit that threatened the release of the next installment in the Predator franchise.”
Silvia Vannini, who advises public and private companies on mergers and acquisitions, securities, and general corporate matters, was involved in “some of the industry’s most headline-grabbing acquisitions.” Vannini was also co-lead in CJ ENM’s acquisition of Endeavor Content’s scripted business and represented a shareholder in the US$900 million sale of Reese Witherspoon’s media company Hello Sunshine. She advised ViacomCBS Networks International on its majority acquisition of Spanish-language content producer Fox TeleColombia & Estudios TeleMexico. Vannini said she expects that “technology giants will continue to build cross-media offerings.”
