Bloomberg Law: American Airlines Wins Flight Attendant Appeal Over Covid Buyout

A Ninth Circuit panel denied an appeal filed by three former flight attendants challenging an early retirement program offered by American Airlines at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The flight attendants accused the airline of violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act by forcing them to participate in the buyout program. “Even assuming the federal policy guidelines were unreasonable, the situation was not attributable to any conduct by American Airlines,” the panel said.
