Law360: Broadcom’s US$61B VMware Deal Conditionally Cleared By EU

The European Commission, the antitrust authority of the European Union, approved Broadcom’s US$61 billion proposed acquisition of VMware Inc., a cloud computing and software service provider. The deal was cleared under the condition that the California-based semiconductor producer allows other companies access to tools and support to develop rival products. Broadcom announced the deal in May 2022 and noted that it continues “to make progress with our various regulatory filings around the world, having received legal merger clearance in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the EU, South Africa and Taiwan, and foreign investment control clearance in all necessary jurisdictions.” O’Melveny & Myers LLP serves as legal counsel to Broadcom.
