Law360: O’Melveny Continues Texas Growth With Baker Botts Litigator

O’Melveny has hired litigator Kristin Cope as a partner in its Dallas office, which opened in June. The trial and appellate attorney said, while she was not planning to leave her prior firm, the opportunity at O’Melveny was tempting due to the firm’s reputation for taking on big trial cases. “A lot of firms say they do litigation, but not a lot of firms are true trial firms,” Cope said. “O’Melveny has, I think, gone to trial more than anybody else in the last couple of years.” Cope is reuniting with former Baker Botts colleague Tim Durst, who joined O’Melveny in September. “I kind of knew that any place that was going to convince him to make that move was going to be a pretty special opportunity, or he would not have done that,” Cope said in reference to Durst. O’Melveny chair Bradley Butwin said that Cope is an “acclaimed, talented litigator whose trial experience will be an immediate asset to our clients in Texas and beyond. As we continue to strengthen our Texas team, we are delighted to welcome Kristin to our Dallas office.”
