O’Melveny partner Tim Fink, a former top legal advisor to the Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), discussed his move from a government role to private practice. “What’s important in making such a move is that you go to a place where they and their clients see the value in having someone who has a deep understanding of a government agency,” Fink said. “The government can often appear like a black box to outsiders. It serves a lot of stakeholders and is trying to get the right result in whatever it’s doing. How it goes about doing that is something that may not always be clear from an outsider perspective.”
