The American Lawyer and Texas Lawyer: Smoking-Hot Austin Attracts Another Firm—O’Melveny & Myers
June 7, 2021
The American Lawyer drew attention to the powerful appeal of Texas following the opening of O’Melveny’s new Austin office this week. “The time is right for us to establish a Texas practice,” stated O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin, emphasizing the rising-opportunities across multiple practice areas and advantages for the firm’s existing Texas-based clients with a global presence, such as AT&T, American Airlines, and Exxon Mobil.
O’Melveny welcomed Philip Oldham as a partner to head the team. Rex VanMiddlesworth also made the move to O’Melveny, with Benjamin Hallmark and Katie Coleman also set to join in Austin. Additionally, O’Melveny Intellectual Property & Technology chair Ryan Yagura will divide his time between the firm’s Los Angeles and Austin offices.
Oldham noted that a “shared vision” about the intersection of technology and energy solidified the group’s decision to move to O’Melveny. The American Lawyer highlighted the firm’s perspective on the significant opportunities in energy-related project development, M&A, private equity, regulatory matters and litigation.
