Lawyers with experience in government investigations, corporate governance, intellectual property, universities, and labor relations are at the forefront of advising universities on NCAA conference realignment. “The past year and a half has been a crash course on sports, media and college athletics,” said O’Melveny’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations Practice co-chair Steve Olson, who advised UCLA on its move to the Big 10 and Stanford on its decision to join the ACC. “Some of these underlying legal and policy issues are driving what we’re seeing now in conference realignment.” Amy Siegel, co-head of O’Melveny’s Entertainment, Sports and Media Industry Group, said that “it’s fun when something is new and complicated and needs quarterbacking to bring a bunch of people together to figure it out.”
