The American Lawyer: Yeah, Boy! O’Melveny’s Flavor Flav Deal With USA Water Polo Paves Path for More Celebrities in Olympic Sports

O’Melveny represented USA Water Polo in a five-year sponsorship deal with rapper Flavor Flav, founder of rap group Public Enemy, that named him the official “hype man” for the men’s and women’s national water polo teams. “He probably got more press time than any other celebrity other than Snoop Dogg—who was paid—and here was Flav in some ways being an ambassador,” O’Melveny partner Tony Wang said about Flavor Flav’s time at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. O’Melveny Entertainment, Sports and Media Industry Group co-head Amy Siegel, who has represented USA Water Polo in other sponsorships, said that she expects more teams to follow USA Water Polo’s lead with the LA 2028 Summer Olympics on the horizon. “This just seems like a huge opportunity, and I expect there to be more deals as we get now onto the road to 2028,” Siegel said.
