The AmLaw Litigation Daily: Litigation Leaders: O’Melveny’s Litigation Co-Chairs Call D&I an Existential Issue for the Firm

O’Melveny Litigation Department co-chairs Rich Goetz and Apalla Chopra were featured in The American Lawyer’s Litigation Leaders series where they discussed various aspects of the firm’s litigation practice. “We treat diversity and inclusion as though the firm’s survival depends on it — because we believe it does,” Chopra said. “It informs the way we recruit, hire, train, mentor, and promote our people, as well as the leadership roles we look to fill.” Goetz noted that the firm is “always looking ahead, which means building on our strengths and making strategic investments in the kind of talent that will allow us to expand meaningfully or add to our long-term client relationships.” Chopra and Goetz highlighted a slew of trials on the firm’s docket this year, including serving as lead trial counsel for Penguin Random House in the DOJ’s suit seeking to block its merger with Simon & Schuster. “We have more than 50 trials and arbitrations scheduled this year, and another dozen on the way in 2023. We have never been busier,” Goetz said.
