Former O’Melveny Partner Brad Garcia Nominated to U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C.—June 15, 2022—Former O’Melveny Washington, D.C. partner Bradley N. Garcia has been nominated by President Biden to serve as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Throughout his eight years at O’Melveny, Garcia served as a member of the firm’s Supreme Court and Appellate Practice, handling a wide variety of litigation spanning criminal law, insurance coverage, patent rights, federal jurisdiction and procedure, and other complex cases. He argued more than a dozen appeals in federal and state appellate courts—including a pro bono immigrants’ rights case before the U.S. Supreme Court. His pro bono work also included representing a group of prisoners who were denied the freedom to practice their religion.

Garcia was elected to O’Melveny’s partnership in December 2020. In January 2022, he was appointed Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, where he currently serves alongside several former O’Melveny attorneys including Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco and Associate Deputy Attorney General Jeremy Maltby.

Now, upon confirmation of his judicial nomination, Garcia will join a distinguished roster of O’Melveny alums appointed to the Circuit Court bench in recent years, including D.C. Circuit Chief Judge Sri Srinivasan, Fourth Circuit Judges Pamela A. Harris and Toby J. Heytens, and Ninth Circuit Judge John B. Owens.

“We are enormously proud of Brad and of his extraordinary record of success and service,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “In 2018, Brad was awarded our firm’s highest honor—the Warren Christopher Values Award—in recognition of his commitment to upholding our values of excellence, leadership, and citizenship. I am confident that our nation will be well-served by Brad’s exceptional talent, dedication, and judgment.”

“Brad is one of the finest lawyers I know, and one of the finest people,” added Jonathan Hacker, chair of O’Melveny’s Supreme Court and Appellate Practice. “Brad’s modesty and good humor mask the razor-sharp intellect that made him such a successful advocate. That same combination will make him a terrific appellate judge and an effective member of a collegial court like the D.C. Circuit. The court and the country will benefit immensely from his service.”
