FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The new practice brings together leading white-collar, trial, and product-liability lawyers to handle state-led investigations and enforcement matters.
LOS ANGELES—October 22, 2019—O’Melveny today launched a nationwide State Attorneys General Litigation and Defense practice to represent companies and individuals targeted by states.
Across the country, state AGs have grown more aggressive, exercising their broad regulatory and enforcement authority over increasingly vast swaths of the economy. Often, AGs are banding together in multistate investigations and litigation over matters involving the environment, privacy, data security, allegedly deceptive practices, and other consumer issues in the health care, financial services, food, and pharmaceutical industries. O’Melveny’s State AG practice will provide essential guidance to companies operating in this dynamic enforcement landscape.
Led by partners Steve Brody, Ross Galin, and Daniel Suvor, O’Melveny’s team combines sophisticated litigation skills with experience from inside a large State AG’s office, offering holistic counsel to clients facing investigations or enforcement actions. Brody, a former federal prosecutor based in Washington, D.C., leads the firm’s Product Liability and Mass Torts practice. Galin, based in New York, is a member of the O’Melveny’s White Collar Defense and Corporate Investigations practice and co-chairs the firm’s Life Sciences industry group. Suvor, based in Los Angeles, served as senior counsel and policy chief to former California Attorney General Kamala Harris. He brings a deep understanding of the national state attorney general landscape and the best strategies for engaging with State AGs.
The practice group’s deep bench also includes a number of former government lawyers and prosecutors with extensive experience navigating the legal, political, and public-relations issues at play in State AG actions. The team has extensive experience defending against multi-front attacks from criminal, regulatory, and administrative agencies, as well as from civil litigants and Congressional committees.
“O’Melveny has been at the center of some of the largest and most consequential state-led litigation in US history,” said Suvor. “Our key advantage is the ability handle the large-scale, multi-state investigations that have become the norm and see them through from investigative demands to trial and appeals.”
