O’Melveny Welcomes Leading Houston Energy Lawyer Jibin T. Luke

November 11, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HOUSTON—November 11, 2024—O’Melveny announced today that experienced energy transactions lawyer Jibin T. Luke has joined the firm’s Houston office as a partner in the Energy Industry Group, further expanding O’Melveny’s global roster of top-tier energy-focused practitioners.

Recognized as a leading Texas energy lawyer by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 US, Luke guides clients through M&A, investments, debt and equity financings, energy transactions, and regulatory matters. He also provides private equity and portfolio company support and advises on a wide range of agreements, including for limited liability companies, partnerships, equity and asset joint ventures, and joint operations.

Luke brings nearly 15 years of experience to O’Melveny representing business owners and investors in the energy industry. He focuses his practice on advising public companies and upstream and midstream energy companies backed by major private equity sponsors. His practice also includes work for companies in the manufacturing, technology, and service sectors. He is a member of the Energy Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (formerly the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation).

Luke comes to O’Melveny from the Houston office of McDermott Will & Emery, where he was a member of that firm’s Energy & Project Finance Group. His arrival strengthens O’Melveny’s broad energy capabilities in Texas and accelerates the firm’s rapid expansion in the Lone Star State. Since 2021, O’Melveny has added nearly 80 lawyers—including 28 partners—across its Houston, Dallas, and Austin offices.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Jibin to O’Melveny as we continue to grow our Houston office by recruiting some of the most talented energy lawyers in Texas,” said O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin. “Jibin is highly regarded in the Texas market for his work with sponsored and independent energy companies. I am confident that our clients will immediately benefit from the deep experience that he brings to our acclaimed Energy team.”

“Joining O’Melveny was one of the easiest decisions of my career,” said Luke. “The firm has quickly become a premier destination for Texas energy lawyers who want to provide their clients with an industry-leading global platform. I’m also impressed by the firm’s genuine commitment to collaboration, kindness, and inclusion. I’m excited to make O’Melveny my ‘home’ for the long haul and to help the firm establish an even bigger presence in Houston.”

The addition of Luke further propels O’Melveny’s continued strategic growth. With his arrival, 25 lateral partners have joined the firm since 2023, including 16 corporate partners based in the firm’s Houston, Singapore, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Century City offices. And Luke is the second Houston partner to join O’Melveny’s Energy team in just one month—after partner David Aaronson joined the firm on November 6.

Luke earned his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law and his LL.M. in taxation from the University of Houston Law Center. He earned his M.B.A. from Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business and his B.A. from Texas A&M University.
