Gillian Hawley is a litigation associate in O’Melveny’s Los Angeles office, representing clients in civil litigation. Gillian has served as an instrumental member of multiple trial teams, helping clients to score precedent-setting victories. Gillian also maintains an active pro bono practice focused on civil rights and pressing constitutional issues.

Before joining O’Melveny, Gillian worked at Viacom Media Networks alongside intellectual property-litigation attorneys to assess copyright infringement concerns, advise production groups on use of parody and satire, and negotiate licensing deals with record labels and music publishers.

  • Represented a coalition of large landowners in the first comprehensive groundwater adjudication under California’s new statutory adjudication scheme.
  • Represented a major international insurance company in a breach-of-contract trial.
  • Developed a comprehensive assessment of water rights for a landowner in California.
  • Representing a major international oil and gas company in litigation against a county commission over the denial of a permit application related to the transport of crude oil.
  • Representing an inmate in a challenge to state prison restrictions on religious practice.
