Environmental Liability and Compliance

• Advised US manufacturing corporation in managing environmental liabilities in a US$1.44 billion sale of a key business division.
• Advised industrial manufacturing company in fulfillment of consent order obligations, sale of contaminated facility, and settlement of toxic tort claims brought by 50+ neighboring homeowners.
• Managed an environmental and DOT hazmat compliance audit program for a Fortune 500 domestic manufacturing conglomerate.
• Advised a large nationwide retail department store in establishing a DOT-compliant rideshare delivery program for DOT hazmats and pharmaceuticals.

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances

• Represented two of the eight major PFAS manufacturers – both international companies – that participated in the 2010/2015 PFOA stewardship program on PFAS-related matters.
• Integral part of legal and regulatory team that pursued and obtained, on behalf of a prominent Japanese fluoropolymer manufacturer, FDA and EPA approvals for C-6 PFAS, during the initial stages of industry shift away from long-chain alkyl acid PFAS (e.g., PFOA).
• Core member of legal team that represented a well-known chemical manufacturer in a proceeding against insurance provider regarding a multi-hundred million dollar PFAS settlement with state environmental agency.
• Assisted client in repositioning itself for sale following the collapse of a US$2 billion transaction over PFAS concerns, by performing PFAS-focused due diligence for C-suite and board of directors and providing documentation to properly contextualize possible exposure risks for future investors and purchasers.
• Advised Fortune 500 general manufacturing conglomerate in screening 40+ remediation sites for PFAS and counseling with respect to the development of PFAS-specific investigation and remediation plans at locations where PFAS contamination has been identified.
• Provide rulemaking advocacy on behalf of clients with respect to emerging PFAS laws and legal requirements.

Extended Producer Responsibility

• Represented numerous companies in navigating the complex web of state Extended Producer Responsibility laws.
• Performed advocacy and coalition-building on behalf of businesses adversely impacted by EPR laws, including work with prominent trade associations.

Data Centers and Digital Infrastructure

• Core member of the Industrial Site Selection practice at prior firm that assisted various clients, including most notably, a major Asian automobile manufacturing in siting a US$6 billion hydrogen-powered steel plant in the Southeast United States.
• Advised numerous companies, including Japanese and Korean conglomerates, with respect to environmental permitting requirements and potential liability exposure for pre-existing conditions with respect to infrastructure projects, including projects on federal lands.
• Drafted influential white paper that initiated Nuclear Regulatory Commission efforts to streamline its environmental review procedures for the construction and licensing of small modular reactors (a technology frequently discussed as necessary to power data centers).
• Counseled energy clients at a high level regarding potential amendments to the Coal Combustion Residual rule, which could affect siting decisions for data centers.
• Assessed the use of PFAS, HFCs, and other chemicals subject to governmental regulation in data centers (see publication: “PFAS, HFCs, and Related Chemicals in the Data Center Industry,” The Journal of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence & Law 9 (1): January-February 2026).
• Advised various clients on remedial strategies, including choice of clean-up programs, which is essential to repurposing brownfields properties, including for use as data centers..
