Vino Jayaraman is an experienced litigator who represents clients in a wide range of complex business litigation, including mass torts, unfair competition, and related commercial litigation. He regularly advises pharmaceutical companies on their most complex class action and product liability cases, and has otherwise represented major insurance companies, mass media companies, celebrities, and financial institutions. Vino has worked with these clients in state and federal courts through all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, and trial to ensure the client’s story gets told.

In his wide-ranging experience, Vino is and has been a core member of discovery and trial teams, taking and defending fact and expert depositions, delivering oral arguments, crafting opening statements and closing arguments, and drafting trial examination outlines. Vino has experience handling the day-to-day management of large-scale complex litigation, and his trial acumen has contributed to major defense verdicts on behalf of O’Melveny clients. He currently serves as counsel in cases making national headlines including the ongoing defense of a global pharmaceutical company and its subsidiaries in state AG litigations concerning the company’s pain medications and a social media company in private and governmental lawsuits against consumer protection and privacy claims.

Prior to law school, Vino worked as a pharmacology researcher at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, and co-authored multiple articles published in scientific journals.

  • Defending a global pharmaceutical company and subsidiary against 1,000+ opioid lawsuits brought against them by states, towns, and municipalities across the country.  
  • Defending a social media company against private and governmental actions alleging violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Unfair, Deceptive and Abusive Practices statutes.
  • Defending a major insurance carrier in a coverage-dispute against an art collector alleging US$410 million in damages for breach of contract and bad faith claims handling following a denial of coverage on fine art pieces allegedly damaged in a house fire.  
  • Defended a global pharmaceutical company and subsidiary in a two-month, multi-billion-dollar opioid trial against the State of Oklahoma in Oklahoma, achieving a full defense victory on appeal.      
  • Defended a global pharmaceutical company in a months-long opioid trial against California localities, seeking more than US$50 billion, achieving a full defense verdict. Courtroom View Network named the win #1 on its “Top 10 Most Impressive Defense Verdicts of 2021,” with AmLaw reporting, “[d]efense wins just don't get much bigger.”  
  • Defended a major insurance carrier in a weeklong coverage-dispute, achieving a full defense verdict against a policyholder’s US$47 million coverage claim for alleged damages following Hurricane Sandy. 
  • Defended a voting rights organization pro bono in a two-week remote trial during COVID-19 lockdown to block Alabama counties from enforcing overly restrictive voter registration laws.
  • Prior to joining O’Melveny, represented a contract drug manufacturing organization in commercial litigation involving allegations of misappropriation and tortious interference seeking nearly US$100 million in damages, helping to secure a favorable settlement for his client.
