Waseem Salahi is a highly skilled trial lawyer known for delivering exceptional results in complex commercial and criminal cases. With extensive courtroom experience, he brings a strategic lens and relentless commitment to securing favorable outcomes for clients facing their most critical legal challenges.

His work has recently included representing a large insurance company in a complex fraud trial, which ended favorably after opposing counsel agreed to “walk away” midway through trial, as well as representing a social media company as amicus curiae in the California Supreme Court.

During his six-year tenure as a Deputy Federal Public Defender, Waseem successfully defended hundreds of clients in high-stakes federal cases, including allegations of tax evasion, insurance fraud, extortion, identity theft, and obstruction of justice. He often achieved results that exceeded national norms, including three consecutive jury acquittals and many other dismissals through aggressive pretrial litigation, creative investigation strategies, and steadfast negotiation. His courtroom successes stem from his incisive cross-examinations of lay and expert witnesses and presentation of compelling arguments that resonate with judges and juries. Even while opposing him, federal prosecutors have publicly described Waseem’s arguments as “vigorous,” “impressive,” “clear,” and “thorough.” He has appeared before nearly every district court and magistrate judge in the Central District of California and has argued in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Prior to his public defense work, Waseem was an associate at a major New York law firm in its government enforcement and white-collar crime group. There, he counseled international corporations on complex criminal and regulatory investigations, ranging from accounting fraud and money laundering to market manipulation and whistleblower retaliation. He prepared corporate executives for interviews with federal prosecutors and distilled vast data into intelligible insights.

Waseem also served as a judicial law clerk to The Honorable Richard A. Paez of the Ninth Circuit. He has served as a guest lecturer on advanced criminal procedure issues at USC Gould School of Law and UC Irvine School of Law. He has also spoken on panels hosted by the Los Angeles County Bar Association and UC Berkeley School of Law.
