Reimagining Education in the Shadows of COVID-19
Framroze “Fram” Virjee, President of California State Fullerton, and O’Melveny partner Apalla Chopra have a virtual Fireside Chat: “Reimagining Education In the Shadows of COVID-19.” Fram will detail his university’s journey from “normal, to abnormal, to the new normal, the bumps along the way, and what he expects will be long-term changes,” including a few unexpected silver linings. As the fall semester looms, Apalla, who leads O’Melveny’s Colleges & Universities and Labor & Employment practices, will discuss pandemic-related lawsuits and other unprecedented challenges universities are grappling with from socially distanced-housing to lecture hall reconfiguration. Fram and Apalla will also comment on the public/private and digital divides while exploring whether “equal access to education” is an attainable goal during a dual crisis: public health emergency framed by painful and widespread racial and social unrest. Lastly, and most importantly, they will share some specific and meaningful ways we can come together as a community to support disadvantaged students who most need our help.

Participant’s “Contagion” Tried to Warn Us...So Now What? Navigating Re Entry to the Workplace
Participant’s General Counsel, Jeannine Tang, and O’Melveny partners Aparna Joshi and Adam Karr discuss how, nearly a decade ago, Participant released a film predicting a global pandemic. How did they conceive of and create their story? Why did they create it? And now that states are looking to open up more broadly, what does that mean for employers navigating the legal risks involved? Knowing what they know, how is Participant managing their reopening, balancing business needs with their team’s safety? Where did “Contagion” accurately predict current events and where does our current reality differ? What’s next as the race for a vaccine accelerates and how should employers stay a step ahead?
